Fun with Food

Having a super picky toddler can make lunch and dinner a daunting task. Mr. Destructo would be very happy if I fed him peanut butter and jelly every day for lunch. That is not mommy's idea of a good lunch everyday. Time to get creative! My son's favorite breakfast is a NannerPus! Sounds weird doesn't it. Let me show you what a NannerPus is:
An octoupus banana. Very similar to an "OctoDog" (hot dog octopus)! Think hot dog with 8 legs, cut just like the banana, but a hot dog.

Mom Tried It posted about her "Jellyfish Dogs" this morning. They look really gross, but her kids loved them!
It's all about having fun! I got a coupon for hotdogs in the mail, hopefully they will be a good price at Harris Teeter triples this week and I can make some "OctoDogs" and "Jellyfish Dogs" this week!

Do you have anything fun you make with food? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Tuesday Tag-Along and Tag Tuesday!

Tuesday Tag-Along

I'm joining in on my first networking meme today! I love doing these as it is a great way to learn about other bloggers! A new one has started up called "Tuesday Tag-Along" hosted by Twee Poppets.

Here's how it works:

* Create a new Tuesday Tag-Along blog post. Include the Tuesday Tag-Along button by copying and pasting the code above.
* Add your blog name and the URL of your TTA post to the MckLinky below.
* Follow Twee Poppets, the hostess blog listed in the first slot. Leave a comment saying you've followed, and Twee Poppets will follow you back!
* If you can, please follow the blogs in the three slots before you (e.g., if you're number 20, follow numbers 19, 18, and 17). This is not mandatory, but it will help ensure that everyone who signs up gets a few new followers!
* Follow as many other blogs as you want. The more you follow, the more that will follow you back! Be sure to tell them that you're following from Tuesday Tag-Along! You may also want to leave a link to your blog so they can return your follow more easily.
* When you get a new follower through Tuesday Tag-Along, be sure to follow them back! It's just common courtesy. :)
Welcome to my new blog! It is still a work in progress but I just wanted to share it with you! Sit back, relax, and read a few stores of how my kids have tortured taught me lately.

I also love Tag Tuesday! So much fun!
  • Today is Tuesday, New blank list goes up,
  • The Rules to playing "Tag, you're it" are simple:
  • add your information to the spreadsheet "Tag" everyone else above you on the list
    (Tag::add and leave Tag comment)
  • Check back regularly to "Tag" new friends below you (list is open all week)
  •  "Tag" back everyone who has "Tagged" you (remember to add or follow in addition to leaving the Tag comment)

An aspiring chef...

I'd like to tell you this is a stock photo of Kosher Salt. You know one of those photos that you can get online to put in a blog post. This is a 16 ounce box of Kosher Salt. I use it to bake my homemade bread. It's delicious by the way. This week I was planning some Cinnamon Rolls. Mmmm.
But this isn't a stock photo. In fact this is a photo I just took. Let me zoom out a bit.

This is my kitchen floor. A floor with 15 ounces of Kosher Salt on it. I guess Mr. Destructo thought he would "help" me in the kitchen. I keep reminding myself that maybe he's a fantastic chef in the making. You know, starting him out early. This isn't the first or even the second time he's done something like this. Remember the Blackening Seasoning incident? About 4 days after that mess, we had a Black Pepper mess. I should have seen this coming. When I was pregnant with him I watched a lot of Rachael Ray. When he was an infant, we both watched Rachael Ray and he really liked her. Maybe I shouldn't have watched her so much! Again, reminding myself, he's going to be a great cook one day! I guess I better find a coupon for some more Kosher Salt. Too bad I just got home from the grocery store. Sigh, another day in a house with 2 little boys.

When things get just a little too quiet...

(Story originally posted by me on my other blog on 3/2/10)
In a house with a 1 and a 2 year old you always have to be at the top of your game! I was cleaning up from dinner and washing some dishes. I was pretty impressed with myself for getting it done in a timely manner and I was even thinking ahead to mopping (yes I was going to mop, I HATE TO MOP!). Then I snapped back to reality and realized that it was really quiet. A little too quiet! I immidiately started looking for the 2 year old. These days he is usually the culprit. Not in the living room, not in the bathroom. A moment of worry set in! I wasn't worried for his safety, since our house is pretty safe. I was worried for whatever he was destroying! We don't call him Mr. Destructo for no reason! I found him. Here is what else I found:

What is this you ask? Keep reading.

Here is some more of it. Of course it would be in the pile of stuffed animals.

And in his bed. Didn't I JUST wash those sheets?

Even inside the Hot Wheels cars.

And finally on the window ledge, embedded into the small spaces of the window.

Mr. Destructo stole the Blackening Seasoning from the kitchen table and dumped it all over his room. I was so frustrated! But at least he gave me something to blog about tonight! Right?
Motherhood is a learning experience right? When our children are born, we don't instantly know everything. Just like we teach them everything, they teach us a few things along the way.

What I learned from this experience:

* Blackening Seasoning burns in cuts.
* Some stuffed animal fur holds on to powder much better than others. Therefore making it much harder to get it out.
* My new vacuum works great! (I'll post about it soon)
* The crevice tool of the vacuum works great at getting seasonings out of Hot Wheel cars.
* Always be worried when it is silent in the house!

Gotta love being a mom right? What have your kids done lately that just made you want to scream?

Welcome, a little about me and my family!

You may already know me, my name is Jaime and I am the author of "I have a coupon for that". I've decided to split my mom stuff up from my coupon stuff.

I'm a stay at home mom. Before taking the title of "mom", I worked at a photo studio as a photographer. I met some great people and photographed some awfully cute kids. One of which will be publishing her first book to come out in the Summer of 2010! I'm so excited to have some of my photos in such a cute book!
We bought our first house in 2009 and I enjoy doing DIY crafts to make it look pretty. I'll share them with you along the way!

My house is always in a state of emergency. I have two tornadoes that run through here all the time! I've mastered the "LEGO Leap" and the "Car Shuffle". I do not clean up the toys during the day... ever. I once heard, "Picking up toys while your children are awake is like brushing your teeth while eating an Oreo". (I do not know who said that, but I saw it on Facebook.)

Let me share a bit about my family with you.
I am married to a wonderful guy who puts up with my desire to play than to clean. He is in the Navy and you probably won't see any photos of him because he hates the camera. We were married in 2007 and we have 2 little boys. Let's talk about them.

We call our 2 year old Mr. Destructo. He is a very spirited child! We knew we would have our hands full with him when he started walking at 9 months and started climbing over the baby gates before his first birthday. He was doing the superman over the top! I couldn't leave that boy alone by himself ever! He is still my little dare devil and more destructive than ever! He hates the camera so you may not get to see many "happy boy" photos of him.
Our other son is 1, we call him Blue Eyes. He really has the most beautiful blue eyes. (I'm not biased or anything) When he was 9 months old he was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis and had a 5 hour surgery at 10 months old to correct it. You can read more about that here and I will be blogging about Cranio in the future. He is our laid back child. He has no desire to walk at all. He is a little ham when it comes to the camera! He loves to give mommy his smiles! He is very cautious of strangers and suffers from serious separation anxiety. Mommy can't even pee without him crying. It ends at 15 months right?!

So that's my family. Follow along with us as I share with you all of our potty training adventures, the disasters my kids present to me daily, and things I've learned along the way!

About

About Me:
My name is Jaime. I am married to one lucky man and we have 2 little boys. Our oldest is 2, we call him Mr.Destructo. Our other son is 1 and we refer to him as Blue Eyes. I love his blue eyes! I am a stay at home mom and I love it! These kiddos keep me on my toes and give me a run for my money on a daily basis.

My house looks "lived in" constantly, I'd rather be playing with the boys than cleaning up after them. LOL. I was once told, "healthy enough to be happy, messy enough to be having fun!" If you drop in unannounced, don't be surprised if you have to dodge LEGOs and fireman body parts to get to the couch.

I love photography, DIY decor and coupon shopping. I rarely pay full price for anything and haven't paid for a tube of toothpaste in a year.

Before I had kids, I worked as a photographer at a studio and enjoy photographing my kids almost daily. Mr. Destructo does NOT like the camera (he gets it from his father) but Blue Eyes is a little ham. If it seems like there are more photos of him on here, that's why. You won't see many photos of my husband since he hates it so much.

Craniosynostosis

What is Craniosynostosis?
Craniosynostosis is the premature fusing of an infants skull.
In December 2009, Blue Eyes (9 months at the time) was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. It is the premature fusing of the skull's sutures. His doctor had never heard of it before. It occurs in about 1 in 2000 births. If it was left untreated it could have led to restricted brain and skull growth causing a lot of problems for him. He under went a 5 hour surgery at 10 months old to correct it. 3 weeks later he started pulling himself up finally and couch cruising! It was very exciting for us! We are working to raise awareness. Many doctors and families have never heard of it and it often goes unnoticed and untreated. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. To find out more about our journey you can read about it here. Here is a video I made of his journey. Pictures may be graphic to some.
